Obsession in-depth review (SPOILERS)
The heatwave has finally broken, thankfully, so I am slowly getting back to things. Last week wasn’t a very good one for me. Most of the US was affected by a “heat dome,” similar to the UK and European heatwaves. It got to 100 degrees here, and I don’t have air conditioning. It was also July 4th. I’m not big on holidays, so I rented Obsession. And boy do I have thoughts lol
⚠️ Warning: This review contains major spoilers for Obsession. If you haven’t seen the film yet, I’d recommend watching it first before continuing.
Initial Thoughts
First off, I did like this film, and I am so glad I didn’t see it in theaters. I saw a YouTube video from a creator I like about how people were at the theaters and had to walk out, but not because of the film; it was due to poor theater etiquette. I also got a slight spoiler watching this as people (mostly men) were laughing at a particular scene (which was not funny at all and I thought it was sick that people would laugh but not surprised men would laugh) I was also inspired to write my review especially after another video I saw on youtube (I didnt see it directly but i was it on a streamer’s youtube feed, titled “Obsession From Nikki’s POV is Brutally Disturbing” and it is. And of course, with the algorithm, I got more videos on Obsession, saying that Bear is the villain (which I agree with, along with more), and with a few funny parody videos, I wanted to write an in depth/breakdown review of Obsession (while I have the rental lol)
So spoilers ahead and also trigger warnings for sexual assault, self-harm, drug use, etc.
Story Breakdown (Spoilers)
Now, before I begin this, I want to say Bear is the villain, along with his friends. I said what I said. If they truly cared about him and were honest from the get go, things would be normal. But this is why I hate friend groups, but let’s not get ahead of ourselves.
Characters
Baron aka Bear
Nikki
Ian
Sarah
They have all been friends since middle school. Bear has had a crush on Nikki for the longest time (I’m guessing 7 years from a line Ian said). Bear wants to tell Nikki how he feels, and Ian is against it, or at the very least advises Bear against telling her at their weekly Wednesday trivia night. Now, first of Ian is a repugnant asshole. Ian advises Bear to flirt with her “be romantic” but also to slightly tease her by calling her a name that she was called in middle school that bothers her, “Freaky Nikki.” This is why I hate Ian and wasn’t surprised at his actions later, because this is shit advice. If a guy liked me and called me by a nickname or referred to incidents in school that possibly included bullying, etc I would want nothing to do with him. This is not flirting or light teasing. A woman would see a guy like this as shit (or I would). Hey, some people like assholes; I don’t, but I digress.
I feel Ian did this because he was trying every which way to sabotage Bear to get to Nikki, knowing full well that calling her that nickname would bother her. Ian sees it as I do; Nikki would hate Bear and have zero chance. Ian had motives.
Ian advises Bear to ask Nikki for a drink, to which Bear replies that he has and that Nikki always invites Ian. Do you see what I’m getting at here? Warning: I may rant about how friend groups suck at some point here, but I think Bear overlooks this since they’re all friends who hang out often. But like any friend group, or what I always see in tv/movies) Friends fuck each other, friends hide secrets from each other, and friends don’t let anyone else in because of these secrets.
Ian tells Bear that “all you have is time.” We know this is false. Time is not promised and is short. Again, Ian is an asshole for saying this, but it’s not like Bear is innocent. He had Ian enabling him, whether obvious or otherwise.
Bear decides to wait. Honestly, after personal experience, I wouldn’t tell anyone I liked them ever again. I wouldn’t tell friends I liked someone. I’d rather meet someone organically. We don’t have friends in common, or at least in proximity (knowing each other since school)
Bear gets home and finds his cat Sandy dead. Sandy got into a prescription bottle and had pills (his grandmother’s pills, Oxycodone/Oxy)
Bear puts Sandy in a garbage bag and grieves for his cat. Bear is then looking at Nikki’s Insta, and lo and behold, Nikki is calling him!
Nikki just got off work (oh, did I mention THEY ALL WORK TOGETHER TOO?!?) It’s Sarah’s father’s shop (played by Andy Richter). Nikki invites Bear out, and he says he can’t. He does not tell Nikki that his cat Sandy died. Nikki then drops her crystal necklace down the drain while on the phone with Bear. Bear decides to get a replacement crystal necklace for Nikki, so he goes to a local shop, very New Age (I love these shops!)
The worker (while on the phone with her friend) advises Bear on what each crystal means, and she is actually accurate! Bear was leaning towards a crystal, Citrine, but thought Nikki wouldn’t like it (but then again, if he truly knew what Citrine was, she absolutely would). He looks at other items in the shop and comes across the One Wish Willow display and decides to buy it for Nikki.
The worker makes small talk with Bear and drops a few hints/foreshadowing. Some people call to complain about the One Wish Willow. Bear doesn’t believe in any of it but buys it.
Nikki, Sarah, Ian, and Bear are at their local bar. Sarah and Nikki are talking while Ian is silently mouthing Bear to not talk to Nikki. Nikki decides to get shots for everyone. Bear gets a Piña colada, to which Nikki laughs hysterically. Bear is trying to chat with Nikki while ordering, is constantly getting disrupted, and still doesn’t tell Nikki about his cat. Bear is trying to tell Nikki about what he got for her as a replacement for her necklace, and gets disrupted by Ian. Nikki remembers that Bear was saying something, and Ian gets very interested. “What were you saying?” Again, Ian does not want Bear talking to Nikki ITS ALL RIGHT HERE! Sarah then comes over, seeing that everyone else is at the bar. They get their drinks, and Ian asks what they are cheering to, to which Bear replies, “Sandy.” Trivia starts, Ian and Nikki walk off, and Sarah asks, “Why Sandy?” and Bear tells Sarah Sandy died. Sarah consoles and hugs Bear.
I am still puzzled as to why he didn’t tell Nikki. I have a few theories, but nothing concrete. But instinctually, he tells Sarah, but not Nikki. Interesting…
They leave the bar, and Ian suggests going to another bar for karaoke. Nikki doesn’t want to go; she doesn’t like karaoke. Nikki wants to go straight home, and Bear offers to give her a ride. Note that Ian is still asking Nikki to go to the bar, and she declines. They all hug good night/good bye and Ian makes a snide remark “get your girl home safe” Nikki replies with Eww dont say it like that” while also playfully hitting Ian. that alone should have told Bear she is not interested and peep the body language in this scene (I know its written but its like she’s telling Ian “dont say that dont give him ideas” Get the hint. I know rejection sucks, but it happens to everyone.
Bear is taking Nikki home, and she is giving her condolences for Sandy. Bear says he hasn’t fully processed it yet, and Nikki replies that she’ll be there when he does. They also refer to their earlier call. Nikki wants to quit and put in her 2 weeks. She wants to write. Bear says he got her something, and Nikki gets nervous about it, and I can relate to this. I have had a similar situation. Guy liked me, but I didn’t like him. We had a friend group the guys are telling him to talk to me. He got me something, and I immediately got uncomfortable. I don’t want anything from someone I don’t like. You can keep it or throw it in the trash. I never flirted or did anything to come off as if I liked this person. I dont like you keep away from me, but we have friends in common and hang out as a group. FRIEND GROUPS SUCK. More on this later.
Bear gets to Nikki’s house. Nikki mentions that Sarah was asking about Bear all day at work, and asks Bear how he feels about Sarah. Yes, Sarah likes Bear. But she’s not so innocent either, as she knows the friend group secret and doesn’t tell Bear.
He calls her Freaky Nikki, and she gets uncomfortable. Again. She then gives him an out, asking him if he likes her. He just says they’re good friends. In all that time in the car on the way home, having her one on one which sounds rare, HE SAYS NOTHING. HE HAD THE OPPORTUNITY, AND SHE EVEN ASKED, AND NOTHING. BEAR, YOU AND IAN ARE DICKS!
Nikki goes inside her home, Bear is holding the One Wish Willow, and he makes his wish. But not just any wish. “I wish Nikki would love me more than anyone in the fucking world.” Like the saying goes, be careful what you wish for. He is basically asking for borderline obsession. He got what he wished for. But like, some parodies/jokes couldn’t ask for world peace? Or money for yourself? Or better yet, to be a better man that Nikki may want to be with at some point in time? No. Internally, he has had a crush on her for a long time. A crush is not always love. But this wish will def crush him LOL
Note: going forward, Nikki is sometimes cloaked in shadow, and we can’t really see her face, which I think is brilliant. This film, in general, is a masterclass in psychological horror. I think her facial expressions would have given her away, but it’s also proof that Bear does not truly look at Nikki otherwise, he would’ve been horrified too.
Since he made the wish, there are 2 Nikkis. Real Nikki and we’ll just call her Wish Nikki. Real Nikki is seen struggling, but Wish Nikki is always stronger. Real Nikki is responsible for the WTF moments because she’s begging people, “This isn’t me,” “please help me.” Bear doesn’t get it. Even after he makes the wish.
Immediately after making the wish, Bear is about to start the car, and Nikki is just standing outside her house, cloaked in shadow, standing perfectly still. She then goes to Bear’s car and tries to convince him to go inside her house (she basically does not want Bear to leave). She says she lost her cat (Bear lost his car, not Nikki). She recognizes her error and still tries to convince him to go inside again, saying her father is dying and she can’t be inside her home.
Bear then takes Nikki to his place. She likes it because “It smells like him.” As they’re going to sleep, she wants Bear to sleep with him, and while they’re together, they kiss and then make out. She then opens her eyes and is surprised by what’s going on, even saying what the fuck, screams and recoils so violently that she falls off the bed, claiming she saw something, but then says it’s a panic attack. (You can see the 2 Nikkis here upon rewatch) I think real Nikki got freaked out that she was kissing/making out with him, and Wish Nikki was like “whatever, I’m good”
Bear then searches on “Reddit” as well as internet about the One Wish Willow’s authenticity. What are you going to get from Reddit Bear? LOL When he goes back to bed, Wish Nikki asks what Bear was doing, her face is cloaked in shadow.
Bear wakes up and sees a sickening effigy of Sandy that Wish Nikki prepared “as tribute.” Bear is sickened.
Bear and Wish Nikki go to work and arrive together. Ian wants to know what is going on and obviously thinks they slept together. Wish Nikki were at the cash register, and you can see in the background, blurred, that she does not break sight of Bear at all and is watching Bear having a whispered convo with Ian.
Ian wants to know what happened, and Bear does state they didn’t sleep together but does say “she’s crazy,” mentioning Nikki’s changes, and here’s a bit of foreshadowing: Bear says that Nikki wanted Bear to sleep with her. Ian asks, “Did you? Cause that would be fucked up.” Very important for later because it’s a controversial scene and I don’t know why people, mainly men, were laughing at it. Ian then asks if Bear thinks Nikki was on Molly cause it sounds like it. Ian then wants to talk to Nikki. We don’t hear this conversation, but Bear goes to the register, Ian talks to Wish Nikki, and Wish Nikki is staring straight at Bear.
After work, Nikki is going straight for Bear’s car. Bear says he doesn’t want to take her home, and she says she’s just grabbing her purse. Ian takes Nikki home. Bear and Ian talk on the phone after, and you need your eyeballs on this scene CAUSE SHE WAS OUTSIDE THE WHOLE TIME. You don’t notice until she moves to knock on Bear’s door. Wish Nikki’s face is cloaked in shadow (yes, I will point this out each time). Wish Nikki tells Bear that, after talking to Ian, she admits to taking Molly.
Wish Nikki were also “confessing” her feelings for Bear and asking if he feels the same. The whole time, her face is shadowed. (I did turn up the brightness on rewatch, and you can barely see her face, and I did notice something slightly with her eyes)
A montage plays of them sharing “loving moments” like a couple, having coffee together, making out at work while Ian watches; they’re always together. Sarah seems dismayed, but GIRL, YOU SHOULD’VE SAID SOMETHING SOONER!
They’re at a restaurant, on a date. Wish Nikki is getting to know Bear, asking what his aspirations are. He hardly shares because he is private, and jokes that he is a food critic. Ian tries to reach Bear. Ian says that Nikki’s father does not have cancer. Ian checked thoroughly, socials, asking around. While on the phone with Bear, the camera shifts away from Nikki at the table to focus on Bear, and then we see Wish Nikki slowly walk into the frame in the background.

She just stares for a moment and goes back to the table. Ian mentions that the day Bear was off (basically the day that the film starts), Sarah and Nikki were talking, and Nikki mentions that she sees Bear as a brother, basically friend-zoning him. I’m guessing that if Sarah is talking about Bear a lot wants to know where Nikki stands; understandable. A brief flashback plays of Nikki right after the wish was made, and Bear may have a slight understanding of what has happened, as he should. He manipulated someone with zero feelings for him, someone who sees him as a brother, to have romantic and sexual feelings for him. He is the villain. I won’t hear it any other way. Nikki is unable to consent to anything. And Bear still went through with some things, which we’ll get to. He is despicable, but so is Ian for still not stating the obvious.
Bear slowly goes back to the table, starts to ask a question, and changes his mind. Wish Nikki then gives Bear a gift. He’s nervous because of Sandy’s effigy. She gifts him a Tiger’s eye and says she “loves him so so so so so much.” Bear then asks Wish Nikki about her father, whether he actually had cancer, and she has a public meltdown because she just wanted a nice date.
Then the controversial scene and trigger warning:
Bear rapes Nikki. He did not make love to Nikki. He didn’t have sex with Nikki. He didn’t fuck Nikki. He raped her. She is unable to consent. Also, she is seen crying, and he does not look at her face at all while doing this. I don’t understand why people watching this in theaters thought this scene, as well as other scenes, was funny. What I think happened is Wish Nikki was moaning, and real Nikki had to endure that because the look on her face is heartbreaking. Afterwards, Wish Nikki said that was amazing, but if Bear had even bothered to look at her face for one fucking second, he would realize that she was not ok. So he knew he was wrong and still did that. Fuck Bear.
Bear wakes up, and Wish Nikki is not in bed but in a corner of the room, watching him sleep. One thing about Wish Nikki she blends in the background, always in the shadows. Bear asks her to go back to bed, and she says no, back in the corner where she is barely visible. Nikki says that she doesn’t like her dreams and cries audibly, and if you have the brightness/gamma up, you see her face, and it is quite odd. Wish Nikki implores the bear to go back to sleep. The shift is on Bear as he rests for sleep. Wish Nikki yells “WHY DON’T YOU LOVE ME?” And she can’t be seen anywhere. She then returns with a vase filled with flowers covering her face. Bear is frightened and concerned. Wish Nikki is seen smiling, saying the flowers are for Sandy. Bear wants to leave for a moment, and Wish Nikki growls ’STAAAAAYYYYYY’
This next scene is absolutely bonkers. Bear is getting ready to leave for work and notices a piece of his hair is missing/cut. Bear asks Wish Nikki if he cut her hair, which she admits, and asks her, “Let’s not do that again.” Nikki packed him lunch, and Bear wants to talk about last night’s incident, which terrified him. Wish Nikki claims she had a bad dream and then asks “how’s this?” Smiling maniacally like in the film Smile. They kiss and exchange I love yous. Bear pleads with Wish Nikki not to act or move weirdly and says they’re good. Wish Nikki states she wants to be at work with Bear because she has the day off, and Bear notices the door. It has a massive amount of duct tape all over it. Think Silent Hill, except with chains barring the doors; it’s a crap ton of duct tape to the point you can’t even see the actual door. Bear struggles but can open the duct-taped door. As Bear leaves, Nikki stands there with the same magical smile as before, and she urinates on herself. By the time Bear comes home, she has also defecated on the floor, and it looks like she tried to eat herself. She does not move from when he leaves to when he comes back home from work.
At work, Bear is unpacking his lunch, and there are pictures of him sleeping as well as of Nikki, all polaroids. The picture of Nikki and Bear in bed while he’s sleeping says “NOT ME”; the real Nikki is coming through. Sarah is curious about the pictures. Bear states it’s “an inside joke” Bear confronts Sarah about what Ian said about Nikki and being friend-zoned. Sarah is upset that Ian told Bear what she said and so she states, “Well, if Ian is going to talk, you need to know that Ian and …” Her father comes in, disrupting their conversation and telling Sarah she has a letter from a college. Sarah is trying to get into an art school but has been rejected from the ones she applied to and is waiting on two more schools. This school rejected her, and she awaits one more college decision. Bear eats his lunch and notices the note “What is the verdict on cat?” Referring to their conversation at the restaurant, and also implying she cooked Sandy for his lunch. Realizing this, he throws up, and Sarah asks what the note means, and while throwing up replies, “Inside joke.” Bear is a damn moron.
Bear and Ian are in the car and discussing Nikki. Ian then says there’s a party, but no invite was extended to Bear because of Nikki. He then invites Bear but says Nikki can’t come: “Nikki is going through something, and it looks like you’re taking advantage of the situation.” Ian states Bear can come but not Nikki and will even tell Sarah not to come to make it a real boys’ night.
Bear is in the car, practicing to tell Nikki “you can’t cook the cat and I’m hanging out with Ian tonight.” He then hears the One Wish Willow go off, and Bear looks at the packaging, notices a phone number, and calls it. Bear wants to alter his wish; the caller says it can’t be done. Bear says if he can cancel his wish, and the caller says the only way the wish can change is if Bear is dead. The wish is active for as long as Bear lives. The caller then states that he wants to talk to Nikki, and the real Nikki is heard screaming in agony, which is truly horrifying and heartbreaking.
Bear goes inside his house and sees Wish Nikki, and she is disheveled, slightly bloody, and covered in body fluids. She then immediately goes to shower. Bear asks Nikki about cooking the cat and says he’s very upset about that. Bear then says he’s going to Ian’s for a boys’ night. Wish Nikki would immediately stop the shower screams and breaking stuff when Bear mentions it’s a boys’ night, and Nikki can’t go. Nikki mentions that Sarah will be there, and she cries uncontrollably about not being invited. Bear then relents, saying that he wants Nikki to go.
Ian is upset that Bear brought Nikki to the party, and Bear states that Sarah invited Nikki. The group is playing Jenga, but with dares on each piece. Someone’s Jenga piece is “switch seats with someone.” The person decides they want to sit next to Nikki. The guy remarks, “Geez, Baron, what kind of spell did you put on her?” Everyone laughs, but Wish Nikki laughs loudly and continuously after the others stop. It’s then Nikki’s turn, but she doesn’t say what her dare is. She stands up and proceeds to tell a story about Hansel and Gretel, who are siblings but have intimacy with each other, and relates it to her current situation.
“A love that only the branch of a willow tree can conjure,” saying this while glancing over at Bear.
Bear pulls his Jenga piece because it’s his turn, and he hesitates to read it. Sarah also sees the dare and looks away. “Kiss the person on your left.” Sarah is seated to the left of Baron. Wish Nikki immediately stands up and has an upset face

(which I am def using as emotes on my stream, shameless plug lol). She calmly walks over to Sarah, moves her chair, and kneels next to Bear for his dare. Honestly, would I do this? Yeah, if I had a boyfriend, he ain’t kissing anyone LOL
Wish Nikki then says softly to Bear about how no one will ever comprehend how much she loves him; then she yells that everyone in the room will die not knowing the strength of her connection with “my Bear.” Wish Nikki then stares at Isn. Ian doesn’t even want to look at her but asks if she’s ok. Wish Nikki says she is just kidding and laughs, then in a split second is dead serious, saying she’s not joking and to deal with it.
Everyone at the party is uncomfortable, understandably yet still holding their drinks (honestly I would’ve just downed a drink after leaving of course)
Ian asks nervously if anyone wants Jello shots, and someone says they’ll take one (see, a shot would help lol). The real Nikki slips through and is shocked at seeing Bear stumbling and falling and screaming “it’s not me.” She grabs a Jenga piece and bashes it against her forehead, to which the crowd is horrified. She bashes her forehead again, and Wish Nikki comes back, smiles, and apologizes.

Ian is telling Bear that Nikki needs to go to the hospital, but Bear has zero expression on his face and won’t even look at Nikki or anyone, keeping his eyes down while everyone wants Nikki and Bear to leave so Nikki can get medical attention. Bear is driving home, and Nikki is snuggling up to him, still bloodied. They show up to the hospital entrance, and an admitting doctor quickly looks over and refuses to treat them, Wish Nikki is prancing about, making it seem like a drunken accident.
(Even then, you should still be seen? I didn’t understand this too well)
At home, Bear is solemn, still not looking at Nikki, slowly realizing the consequences of his wish and its effects on not only Nikki but himself as well, and honestly, he only cares about himself. He has never cared for Nikki in these moments. The real Nikki knows this, which is why she wants to be away from him since he went so far as to rape her and take advantage of the situation. The music in this scene reminds me of indie horror games I play when the characters are having a moment, which I find to be a nice touch.
Bear stands up, and Wish Nikki asks where he’s going. He says the bathroom, and Wish Nikki asks if she can stand outside. Wish Nikki states that Sarah likes Bear, and Bear loses it. He wants normalcy and asks Wish Nikki “if Nikki likes me,” and she says “I’m your Freaky Nikki.” Bear wants this to work and asks Wish Nikki to go home for some space, and she cries, saying she doesn’t want space. Bear is pleading with Wish Nikki that she wants her to be normal and act like Nikki, to which she screams, “I CAN BE NIKKI.” Bear then realizes that it’s not real. Wish Nikki is not real Nikki. The love isn’t and can never be real. Wish Nikki then gets up and walks backwards, the real Nikki slipping through yet again. Her speech is distorted, and she appears to be glitched.
Wish Nikki is shadowed, scaring Bear, and he says she can have the bed to herself; he’ll sleep at Ian’s. She seems ok with that but is heard breaking stuff while stating “I don’t need your attention.” She comes back, slowly walking to Bear, and says she can be in bed alone and warm, but will then turn cold and her body will feel like sand. “Any thought of pain or regret will slip away like a chemical switch,” she states how quiet it gets and that it’s not painful, but “you just let go of everything that you once were.” She says that it’s not darkness its just nothing, then happily states “or you can stay” and walks off. Bear is still on the floor, scared.
Bear is in bed with Nikki, unable to sleep, and his cell goes off. It’s Sarah, texting at nearly 3 am. Sarah is at a nearby park and urgently wants to speak to Bear. Bear says he can’t leave. Sarah then texts back that if he won’t meet her, she’ll go to him. Bear decides to leave but leaves the bed slowly as not to wake Wish Nikki. The real Nikki comes through sleepily and watches Bear walk away, pleading with Bear to kill her. Real Nikki says it is really her and to be quiet, not to “wake her up.” Real Nikki pleads again for Bear to kill her; she wants to be released from Wish Nikki, and Bear, being the absolute deplorable asshole he is, asks Nikki, “What would be so bad about being with me?” BRO, SHE DOES NOT LOVE YOU. WHAT THE FUCK, DUDE? LET HER GO, YOU ASSHOLE. Real Nikki replies, “I’ve never been with you, Bear.” She begs, “Kill me please, please please please”
Bear, the asshole, leaves to meet Sarah in her car.
The Friend Group
Sarah wants to know what is up with Nikki. Bear states that her father is dying from cancer. Sarah says that Nikki isn’t close to her father and that she hates her father. Sarah just hopes Nikki is genuine and nearly spills the friend group secret, but Bear interjects. Sarah thinks Nikki is taking advantage of Bear. Honey, you are so wrong. Sarah then says she has a letter from her last school, Luther, that she applied to but hasn’t opened it yet. She wanted to open it with Bear. Sarah wants to tell him some things, then starts by saying she promised Ian she wouldn’t tell, and finally spills the friend group secret: IAN AND NIKKI HAVE BEEN HOOKING UP FOR TWO YEARS
FRIEND GROUPS SUCKS
IAN SUCKS
SARAH SUCKS
BEAR SUCKS
My mini rant on friend groups: why do I always hear about this happening? Like, as big as the world fucking is, why do people fuck others in proximity?!? Your coworker. Your neighbor. Your friend’s ex. Your friend. WHY????? Hooking up never works, and there’s no such thing as fucking without feelings. Someone always gets feelings, and someone will always be hurt, yet people ignore this and do it anyway *bombastic side eye*
For the record, I don’t fuck friends. And I don’t stay in friend groups where shenanigans like this happen. I want absolutely no part. And I am not dating anyone who is friends with their ex or friends with someone they fucked “just one time” no, no, and hell no.
Anyway, Sarah says “it’s super casual and not romantic,” but that’s bullshit, isn’t it cause 2 YEARS IS NOT CASUAL. THAT IS A WHOLE ASS RELATIONSHIP/SITUATIONSHIP WHATEVER THE FUCK. Y’all need a clear definition of what casual is cause sleeping with someone for 2 years is anything but the definition of casual.
Bear is stunned, but fuck Bear. Seriously. Sarah says Ian thinks Nikki is with Bear to get back at him. Then Sarah says Bear needs someone more chill, and Bear finishes her sentence, “Like you?” Sarah smiles and says, “Well, I was to your left,” referring to the game, and before Bear and Sarah even come close to kissing, Wish Nikki comes through like a bat out of hell and repeatedly smashes Sarah’s head through the steering wheel until her face is smashed beyond recognition.
Wish Nikki apologizes, then tries to calm Bear and says they have to be together to get rid of Sarah’s body, that it’s his fault he wished for this and it’s his fault this happened to Sarah. Reluctantly, Bear helps Nikki to dispose of Sarah.
Wish Nikki tells Bear Sarah is ready, and for him to come home, she’ll handle the rest.
Bear is in his car, opening Sarah’s letter from Luther. She was accepted. Bear screams in rage and agony.
My Thoughts on Bear
Bear goes back to the New Age shop, frantically looking for a One WishWillow. It’s another coworker, and he doesn’t like his energy and same. Bear’s energy is dark. He’s been with Wish Nikki. Wish Nikki’s energy is extremely dark. Bear wants to reverse his wish, which the coworker advises against. He does mention he would have to get Nikki to make the wish, or he has to die. Bear gets the one wish Willow makes, but it doesn’t break because he already made his one wish. Someone else has to make the wish for him.
Bear goes to Ian’s house. Bear is still bloody from dealing with Sarah and her remains. Ian inquires as to what’s going on as he’s receiving texts from Sarah. Bear doesn’t tell Ian Sarah is dead but tells him not to go over to the house, and he explains about the one wish and that he needs to alter/reverse his wish and asks for Ian’s help. Ian is in extreme disbelief, and Bear is insisting it’s real and to make a wish for Bear, but he does make a wish for a billion dollars. Money then starts raining out of nowhere. Bear seems defeated.
This was the only slightly funny scene in this film. You can laugh at this scene, that’s it LOL
The Ending
Bear gets another one wish willow and gets home. He asks Wish Nikki if she would do anything for him. Wish Nikki enters the room but is moving oddly, possibly real Nikki fighting through, and sees Sarah’s body, naked in a chair. There is also a video playing on the tv of Bear sleeping. Wish Nikki is dressed and acting like Sarah, right down to smoking a cigarette and having Sarah’s tattoos. Wish Nikki asks if Bear likes her better now.
Bear wants to ask Nikki for the wish, but she screams “WHY DON’T YOU LOVE ME?” Wish Nikki bashes her face again
Wish Nikki is slowly going to Ian, saying she wants to smell like Bear and eat him up.
Meanwhile, Ian is outside, knocking on the door, trying to get in, saying the wish is real, as he has one billion dollars. Yeah, asshole number two, Bear, was there, needed your help, and you’re like fuck that dude, I want money.
Ian comes in, and Nikki is in Bear’s face with a gun, yelling that she’ll kill herself. Wish Nikki quickly shoots Ian. Wish Nikki makes Bear scream that he loves her and that he has to make it work.
Bear is trying to maintain his composure while trying to reassure Wish Nikki that he loves her and that everything is fine. Wish Nikki notices he slightly shook his head, and she locks him in the bathroom.
She is erratically knocking on the door, and he says he has to think, so she stops. Wish Nikki then says they should break up. Bear has the gun and is holding it, trying to figure out how to shoot himself, but he doesn’t. He instead takes the remaining bottle of his grandmother’s Oxy. Wish Nikki is still talking to Bear, saying they need space and it’s going to be ok. Bear doesn’t answer as he’s taking all the oxy pills, intentionally overdosing to end it. He hears the one wish willow melody, and he tries to throw up the pills. Nikki made a wish. Bear leaves the bathroom, and they look at each other and smile, both with bloodied faces.

They then kiss, and Bear overdoses and dies. Wish Nikki puts the gun to her mouth, but real Nikki comes back. Real Nikki cries at the horrific scene around her and a dead Bear in her arms. She frantically sobs, “What did you do?”
Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed this film. One of the best Blumhouse films I’ve seen in quite some time, as honestly their films are hit or miss.
His friends should have been honest. Ian is a scumbag, knowing his feelings and still being with Nikki. Sarah, even though she liked Bear, should have said something if she really liked Bear, so he could deal with it. Why the loyalty to Ian if you like Bear?
Ian was never a friend to Bear, but again, everyone was friends out of proximity (school)
Maybe it’s just my personal experiences, but I don’t have any friends from school, and coworkers are not your friends. You just work with them or go to school. Go home, forget the bullshit, rinse and repeat. You should have genuine organic friends outside of work and school and not bar/club friends; that’s a whole other topic. I have great friends from concerts butt clubbing not so much. I know the way the world is, this isn’t ideal, but I do know that having friends due to living on the same block or “we were all in the same class” once upon a time, I was envious of that but now? I want my own friends. They genuinely want to spend time with me; they reach out and want to hang out, and we have fun. I am not going to be chasing someone down, and I don’t beg anyone for their time. You should either want to hang out with me or not. Bear didn’t get this memo. Bear also didn’t notice his supposed best friend fucking his crush. It’s just really shitty all around
Bear is also garbage by raping Nikki, and he knew he was wrong by not looking at her, seeing her face in agony and crying.
Bear never noticed or gave a thought to Sarah. And Sarah had an unexplainable loyalty to Ian.
